Before joining Johnsons, Denzil worked as a COVID Lab Assistant after completing his Chemistry degree at Nottingham Trent University. This experience gave him a strong grounding in analytical thinking, precision, and an appreciation for methodical processes, skills that have proven invaluable in his current role.
In July 2022, Denzil joined Johnsons as an Environmental Compliance Administrator, stepping into a role that blended his scientific background with environmental and regulatory expertise. Since his promotion to Environmental Compliance Lead, he has played a key role in leading the team that secured ISO certification for Johnsons through a UKAS-accredited certification body. Within the Compliance Team, he helps ensure that the business operates responsibly and in line with all relevant standards and legal obligations.
His role is varied and dynamic, ranging from leading internal audit programmes to participating in external audits. Denzil regularly conducts environmental site walks to ensure best practices are followed and plays a key role in maintaining and developing Johnsons’ Integrated Management System.
He also coordinates quality testing for UKCA Certification, Highways Requirements, and WM3, ensuring Johnsons consistently meets both regulatory requirements and the company’s high internal standards.
“No two days are the same in compliance. One day I might be reviewing data and documentation, and the next I’m out on-site leading an audit or preparing for certification testing. It keeps things interesting and gives me a real sense of purpose.”
When he’s not ensuring environmental compliance, Denzil enjoys spending his free time outdoors and relaxing at home. He loves going on long walks with his dog, watching films, and gaming.
“I have a movie watchlist of just over a thousand titles, it’s an ongoing project! I love discovering hidden gems, and it’s a great way to unwind after a busy day.”
Since joining Johnsons, Denzil has become an integral part of the Compliance Team, bringing enthusiasm, curiosity, and dedication to every task. He continues to grow professionally and takes pride in contributing to Johnsons’ ongoing commitment to sustainability, quality, and continuous improvement.
